What is the point of registering industrial designs?
Dmitry Bondarenko, a patent attorney of Ukraine, tells us why.
First of all, to obtain property rights and establish a monopoly on the use of such industrial designs and similar designs.
Industrial designs can be an intangible asset, they can retain value, they can be a contribution to the official capital of an enterprise, and can be used as collateral.
When placed on the balance sheet of an enterprise, they are accounted for like other intangible assets. Accordingly, amortization may be applied.
Registered industrial designs provide the opportunity to manage rights - that is, to grant licenses or permissions for use to other persons or entities.
